I too, would like this.
I agree that they won't do it due to it being a major advertising method. Much like they won't talk about chapter 4 for awhile, in order to not cannibalize sells of Nightfall.
Ah, well.

I don't remember that far back so i don't know if it was different in the final release of prophecies, but i LOVED the entire interface from the Open BETA in Dec. of '05.
That is what originally got me hooked on GW. As for the advertising aspect, those who already own the game don't get much from the different login screen previous the release, seeing that we all find out about it one way or another and in my case it's never from the login screen. The only thing i can see the screen playing into are the people who get trial accounts.
just my $.02

i hate it when games change the an existing good login screen and not let users choose which to use...so please add an option to select old login screens too!!
btw: in warcraft 3, the original login was WAAAY better than the frozen throne login. different game and company--but similar problem...

OMG, IVE BEEN THINKING THE SAME THING FOR THE LONGEST TIME! It's the obvious choice and it's also the BEST CHOICE!
I hate the current character scrolling system. Move mouse over area and wait for scrolling--PSH. If it has to be sideways scrolling then give us a freakin' scroll bar! This current type of scrolling is a terrible inefficient system for any GUI!

/signed,
but dont have to pay extra, get them with the games that you have
EG: get shiverpeaks, RoF etc if you have bought proph
get jade see, kaineng city etc if you have factions and so on
oh and with the camp fire thing, Love it! just thinking about the d2 select what profesion screen and how it was pretty cool but you only get to see it once per char, imagine that (or similar) every time you login

(It's only been about a week, don't kill me please)
You see, with the login screens, I'm pretty sure both the background and the interface are intertwined. For example, in ye olde campeth site, characters were all visible and would walk closer to you when you selected them, while Factions and Nightfall have characters only appear when clicked upon and stand still. The camp one also didn't have a movable camera, nor a link to the then-non-existant store (Factions didn't have a link to the store until like half way).
Also, the character design system changed A LOT from Prophecies to Factions. (Anyone remember the old character appearance screen? With your character standing in front of that marble-like background and you choosing their traits from arrows on the right, not a panel full of each design?)
Plus, the PvP character design system has changed A LOT as well. You see kiddies, back when dinosaurs walked the earth and 4MB of RAM was considered "a lot of RAM", all equipment and such was chosen when you made your character, and you could not make new equipment in-game via a PvP Equipment panel.
Many other interface things that we wish to change (like changing the GUI skin back to Prophecies) wouldn't work, as also back then, attributes and skills were separate from one another, there were no 4 boxes in the inventory for your heroes' inventories, etc).

It's not about the GUI, but about the background.
This thread wants the theming, not the way characters appeared or were made.

I miss the days of Prophecies (back when dinosaurs walked the Earth and 4MB of RAM was considered "a lot of RAM"). Miss the Prophecies theme song also. A lot more graceful and sad (well, the first part) than the Nightfall theme.
GW:EN will likely bring along yet ANOTHER screen. I'm starting to even miss the Factions screen, though I desperately hunger for the Prophecies one.

This is a mostly useless UI update. Therefore a.net will implement this very soon, rather than even consider doing some skill balance changes.

Besides, the factions and all later UIs are all FPS hogs.

Don't really care, but don't see a reason not too. It's just a background right?
Not the char select UI or anything. Though I'd rather Anet spend time on other things, like getting hardmode up and running bug free...

may be a little late but megh, who cares
i liked the yee' ol' campfire, maybe you could rotate around a bit, i'm not saying make it top prioity but put it on the to-do list you-know? personaly i don't like the nightfall look, and it's obvious i'm not the only one, could probably do with some more signings though for it to be taken seriously

All that's needed is for Anet to add a tickbox (or a command line switch, since they seem to like those :P). Not game changing, but not difficult to do either.
